Windows SmartScreen Warning

"Windows protected your PC" or "Unrecognized app" โ€” this is normal for new independent software. H.U.D Manager is safe; it just hasn't built enough download history for Microsoft's reputation system yet.

To run the installer:

  1. Click More info on the SmartScreen dialog.
  2. Click Run anyway.
  3. The installer will proceed normally.

We're working toward an EV code-signing certificate which will eliminate this warning permanently. Every release note will include this reminder until that's in place.

Overlay Invisible / Not Showing

The overlay window launches but you can't see it โ€” the tray icon is there but nothing appears over the game.

Fix โ€” enable Compatibility Mode:

  1. Right-click the H.U.D Manager tray icon (system tray, bottom-right).
  2. Click Compatibility Mode to enable it (checkbox).
  3. The app will relaunch automatically.

This switches to software rendering, which works on GPUs that don't composite transparent windows correctly. Most common on laptops with hybrid Intel/Nvidia graphics.

Install / UAC Prompt

The installer requires administrator permission to write to Program Files. When Windows asks "Do you want to allow this app to make changes?" โ€” click Yes. Without it the install silently fails.

If the installer appears to do nothing: right-click the setup file โ†’ Run as administrator.

Sign-In / SSO Not Working

Clicking Google, Microsoft, or Discord sign-in opens your real browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) โ€” this is intentional. Complete the sign-in there and the overlay picks it up automatically.
